State Rep. Jerry Neyer today applauded action taken by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to expand access to lower-cost fuel options across Michigan, following a letter he sent earlier this week urging the state to implement the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s emergency waiver allowing the sale of E15 fuel.
On March 31, Neyer and 24 other House Republicans sent a letter to the governor calling for immediate action to provide relief at the pump as gas prices continue to rise.
Today, the governor issued Executive Order 2026-4 to that effect.
“Michigan families and businesses needed relief, and I’m glad to see action taken to expand access to lower-cost fuel options,” said Neyer, R-Shepherd. “This is exactly the kind of step that helps people keep more money in their pockets.”
The governor’s executive order brings Michigan in line with the EPA’s emergency waiver by easing fuel blend restrictions in several of the state’s most populated counties, allowing for gasoline options that are typically 10 to 20 cents cheaper per gallon.
In his letter, Neyer highlighted how existing vapor pressure restrictions were limiting access to E15 fuel in counties including Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and others, effectively preventing millions of residents from accessing these more affordable options.
“This was a straightforward opportunity to lower costs, and it’s good to see that opportunity acted on,” Neyer said. “When people are dealing with rising prices, every bit of relief matters.”
Neyer said he will continue working to ensure Michigan families have access to affordable energy options and that policies prioritize cost relief and reliability.
“We need to keep building on this momentum and continue working to lower costs for people across our state,” Neyer said.
