Rep. Lilly selected to join council advancing Michigan’s automobile industry
RELEASE|October 23, 2020

State Rep. Jim Lilly, of Park Township, was appointed Thursday to the Michigan Council on Future Mobility and Electrification.

The council will work to address the 21st century challenges facing the automobile industry including autonomous vehicles, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and advances in public transit.

“Michigan has long been on the cutting edge of advances in the automobile industry,” Lilly said. “I look forward to working with my fellow appointees to ensure we continue to be a global leader in the 21st century.

“Creative policy solutions are necessary to ensure our state’s automobile industry and economy continue to thrive with the introduction of next-generation technology in the sector. I look forward to working with industry leaders, the administration, and my fellow legislators to advance these solutions.”

In a statement announcing the council’s membership, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer focused on the importance of Michigan’s auto industry saying, “In Michigan, where the health of our workers and our economy are directly tied to the health of our auto industry, we will continue engaging in forward-looking policies to remain on the cutting edge of mobility and electrification growth in the state. Since I was sworn in as governor, we have brought in historic investments to our auto plants, creating more than 12,000 Michigan jobs. I will continue working closely with everyone who wants to grow our workforce and economy.”

Rep. Lilly was selected by Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield to serve as a non-voting ex officio member of the council.
