Lawmaker is elected Speaker Pro-Tempore for 2021-22 legislative cycle

State Representative Pamela Hornberger, of Chesterfield Township, has been elected by her colleagues to serve as speaker pro-tempore for the 2021-2022 legislative session of the Michigan House of Representatives.

Rep. Hornberger will be second in line in leadership of the 110 members of the Michigan House of Representatives.

“I am humbled to been selected by my fellow majority caucus members to help lead our House of Representatives next session,” Hornberger said. “I look forward to working with our dynamic leadership team and our caucus to create policies that benefit my constituents in St. Clair and Macomb counties and residents across Michigan. Michiganders have faced a lot of adversity over the past several months and have spoken loud and clear that they want a state government that listens to their concerns. Our team plans to do just that. We’ve accomplished a lot together over these past two years, but there is still work to be done prioritizing health and public safety, reining in government overreach, promoting job creation, improving our K-12 schools and protecting Michiganders’ individual freedoms.”

The speaker pro tempore presides over House proceedings, moderates debate, makes rulings on procedure and announces the results of votes in the absence of the Speaker of the House.

Rep. Hornberger has been a fierce advocate for our K-12 students, leading effort on Michigan’s “Return to Learn” laws and delivering record funding for our K-12 schools.  She supported efforts to provide record funding for our state’s roads and lower car insurance rates all without raising taxes.  Rep. Hornberger has continually championed legislation to protect the unborn and safeguard the Second Amendment rights of every Michigander.

Representative Hornberger was first elected in 2016 to serve Michigan’s 32^nd House District.   She is currently the chairman of the House Education Committee, the Vice Chair of the K-12 Appropriations Committee and a member of the Health Policy and Elections and Ethics committees.
