Legislator encourages others to sign up, recognizes clinic volunteers

State Rep. Ben Frederick today encouraged people in mid-Michigan to make a plan to get vaccinated after recently receiving his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Frederick, of Owosso, received his shot Friday at a vaccine clinic set up by the Shiawassee County Health Department at the Baker College of Owosso Welcome Center.

“I’m happy to report that our community is now receiving an increased supply of doses following months of limitations and uncertainty,” Frederick said. “The clinic I visited was efficient, well-organized, and very welcoming with tremendous positive energy from the many volunteers moving people through. If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to make a plan to get vaccinated.”

Clinics are now planned weekly in partnership with the Shiawassee County Health Department and Memorial Healthcare. People can sign up by filling out the vaccine interest form at http://health.shiawassee.net. Several pharmacies throughout the community are also scheduling appointments.

HomeJoy and Central Pharmacy are leading canvassing efforts and services for the homebound. Individuals who cannot leave their home due to a medical condition or disability may call HomeJoy at (989) 666-3887 to register.

Frederick also recognized volunteers at Friday’s event, announcing that $2,500 in ShiaCash gift certificates will be presented to volunteers at current and future clinics. The gift certificates, made available though a partnership with DaVita Kidney Care and the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce, can be used at more than 40 local merchants who participate in the ShiaCash program. More information about ShiaCash is available by visiting www.shiawasseechamber.org/shiacash.html.
