House Oversight Chair Steve Johnson (R-Wayland) speaks during testimony on Thursday, Feb. 18. Rep. Johnson and the committee heard from struggling restaurant owners and others in the hospitality industry who are at risk of closing due to burdensome executive orders from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and health orders from Whitmer’s Department of Health and Human Services.
Under the direction of Chairman Steve Johnson, the House Oversight Committee has issued a subpoena for the appearance of former MDHHS Director Robert Gordon. The Committee recently received subpoena power to investigate non-disclosure payments and separation agreements between state employees and their employers. Rep. Steve Johnson, Chairman of the Oversight Committee, has pursued answers from Gordon after it came to light that he received $155,000 in exchange for his signing of a confidential non-disclosure agreement.
“It is the responsibility of the Oversight Committee to ensure we provide answers to the people of Michigan. I am committed to ensuring a more transparent and honest government”, said Rep. Johnson. “Agreements signed in the dark for exorbitant sums of money is neither transparent nor honest.”
