Hornberger recognizes Catholic Schools Week
RELEASE|February 1, 2021

State Rep. Pamela Hornberger, who chairs the House Education Committee, has introduced a resolution declaring Jan. 31 through Feb. 6 as Catholic Schools Week in Michigan.

There are 224 Catholic schools in Michigan educating more than 51,000 students.

“Catholic schools instill a broad, values-based education, emphasizing the lifelong development of  moral, intellectual and social values in young people, making them responsible citizens of our state and nation,” said Hornberger, of Chesterfield Township.

The legislator, who is a former educator, also commends the excellence and commitment to community many Catholic schools display.

“Catholic schools educate many non-Catholic students, and students who are economically disadvantaged,” Hornberger said. “A quality education remains the single best way out of poverty. The traditionally high academic standards, high graduation rates and commitment to community service make Catholic schools and their graduates a positive contribution to Michigan and society as a whole.”

The resolution was adopted Thursday.
